Most people cannot run a local AI agent. Setup requires fighting Docker configs, node environments, and API keys. Running OpenClaw raw gives autonomous agents and unvetted plugins full access to your terminal and files. We built Entropic to fix this. Now, we are opening the gates.
Why Open Source?
You should own your tools and your data.
Open-sourcing the codebase removes the black box. Anyone can inspect exactly how the sandbox operates and verify that local data stays local.
This repository is a foundation. Developers can fork it, extend it, build custom integrations, and add new skills. The agent ecosystem is moving incredibly fast. The best tooling will be built in the open by the people who actually use it.
The Architecture
Security is built directly into the core infrastructure. You get a production-ready environment without manually configuring VMs or network rules.
- The Container Fortress: Agent actions — running code, reading and writing files, executing commands — happen inside a hardened Docker sandbox. Your workspace stays isolated from the host.
- Permission Guardrails: Access is scoped to the folders and APIs the agent needs. The sandbox enforces boundaries by default rather than relying on users to configure them correctly.
- Local-First Storage: Credentials are encrypted at rest via a local Stronghold vault. Persistent memory uses a local vector database. Your keys and context stay on your machine.
- Vetted Integrations: Tools can be verified through the Cisco AI Defense Skill Scanner. Native OAuth connections for supported providers reduce manual API key handling.

This release is an invitation. The agent ecosystem is moving too fast for any single team to cover every use case, platform, and integration. We are opening the codebase because the best version of this tool gets built by the people who use it.

The open-source release is completely additive. Whichever path you choose, forking the codebase or just using a polished desktop app with zero setup, both are available.
